Børsen

King Christian IV commissioned this stock exchange as one of his signature architectural statements, built from 1620 and largely complete by 1623, though work continued on parts of it until 1640. Brothers Lorenz and Hans van Steenwinckel the Younger gave the building its Dutch Renaissance style, crowned by a spire of four intertwined dragon tails rising 56 metres, topped with three crowns representing the historic union of Denmark, Norway and Sweden. On 16 April 2024, a fire tore through the building and the Dragon Spire collapsed, destroying large parts of the structure; restoration is ongoing under the motto 'Together for Børsen,' with craftspeople working to rebuild it using original materials and techniques wherever the damage allows.
