When a design by Hofflund & Kielland won the original competition for this church, it was rejected as too expensive to build, and the commission went instead to Kristiania architect Hans Jacob Sparre. Over 10,000 people turned out for the cornerstone ceremony on 8 November 1907, and despite the choir arch collapsing partway through construction in 1908, the plastered-brick church — trimmed throughout with cut granite at its foundations, doors, windows and corners — was consecrated on 15 December 1909. Its long nave is anchored by a single broad, powerful tower, and it seats around 700.
