Brattørvakta

A guardhouse has stood on this strategic spot at the mouth of the Nidelva since around 1725, but the building seen today — known as Brattørvakta, or 'Slaveriet' — was built in 1784 as Trondheim's military main guard, with an attached slavery (forced-labour prison) that operated until it was relocated to Skansen in the 1830s. It continued as an ordinary guardhouse and prison afterward, and since 1967 has housed the Trondheim Maritime Museum, now run as part of the Sverresborg Trøndelag Folk Museum.
