Søbadeindretningen

Trondheim's sea-bathing house began as a joint-stock company in 1858, opening formally on 1 May 1860 with a bathing platform in the city's inner canal near Ravnkloa. Unhealthy water there forced a move to St. Olav's pier in 1880, championed by city engineer Dahl, and the facility was men-only until women finally got their own dedicated department in 1927 — decades after first being allowed a few hours' access a day. Moved a metre and rebuilt in 2011 to make way for a new road, it still operates today at Brattøra with separate clothed and unclothed sunbathing areas.
