Sankt Petri kyrka

Consecrated in 1319 and completed by 1380, St. Peter's Church rose as Malmö boomed into a Hanseatic trading hub, and has been called the finest Gothic monument in Scanian church architecture. Built in Baltic Brick Gothic style as a three-aisled basilica with a transept and cloister, its red-brick facade carries stone carvings of biblical scenes, while inside, medieval frescoes — whitewashed over for centuries — were only rediscovered in the 20th century. Its 1611 altarpiece ranks among the largest in the Nordic countries, and the church was one of relatively few in medieval Denmark to suffer iconoclastic damage during the Reformation.
