Turning Torso

Santiago Calatrava designed this neo-futurist residential tower based on his own sculpture Twisting Torso — a white marble piece modeled on a twisting human figure — and the building rotates a full 90 degrees over its height across nine pentagonal segments. Construction ran from February 2001 to November 2005, and on completion it became the tallest building in Scandinavia and, briefly, the tallest residential building in the European Union. It houses 147 apartments across 54 storeys and won the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat's 10 Year Award in 2015.
