Built in 1905 to a design by Adolf Emil Melander, right as Stockholm phased out horse-drawn trams in favour of electric ones — the last horse tram ran at midnight on 10 February that year — these red-brick depot halls at Jarlaplan were given castle-like crenellations along their roofline, an unusually decorative treatment for working transit infrastructure. Trams stopped running from here in 1967, and between 1994 and 1997 the halls served as a temporary home for the Moderna Museet while its permanent building was under construction. Today they house a gym and conference space.
