Master brewer Abraham Lorenzon Westman the Younger commissioned this residence from architect Carl Christoffer Gjörwell the Younger, completed around 1800. Lieutenant Colonel Georg Adlersparre ran Sweden from the building for a period after the 1809 coup against Gustav IV Adolf, and the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences later bought it in 1828, using it from 1831 to display the natural history collection that would eventually grow into Sweden's Natural History Museum. The state acquired the building in 1916 for use by the Dental Institute.
