Architect
H. Jespersen
Completed
1860

The Danish Ministry of War built this brick riding hall in 1860 to a design by engineer H. Jespersen, replacing a smaller 1818 riding house that had served Prince Ferdinand. Part of the Vester Allé Kaserne cavalry barracks built for the 3rd Dragoon Regiment, the building is a single 900-square-metre room that outlasted the barracks themselves, which closed in 1969. Protected as a listed building since 1979 after a public campaign to save it, Ridehuset now hosts concerts, markets and exhibitions rather than horses.
