Sankt Pauls Kirke

Textile manufacturer Mads Pagh Bruun donated the land for this church on one condition — that it face toward the town — which is why Vilhelm Theodor Walther, Jutland's royal building inspector, gave it a facade oriented north rather than the conventional west. Built between 1884 and 1887 in red brick with twin pyramid-spired towers, the church follows a Romanesque basilica plan with a long, high nave flanked by lower aisles and an apse. A parish hall was attached in 1978, echoing the way Amsterdam's Oude Kerk has buildings built directly onto its structure.
