Hotel Pommern has occupied the same central site since the late 1960s, but the building visitors see today is the result of a complete rebuild by Helsinki architects Aaro Virkkunen and Harri Kokkonen of AVARC Oy, completed in 2015. The rebuild added 95 rooms, a restaurant, and a wine bar and lounge, with interiors designed separately by Carola Tallqvist — a near-total replacement rather than a renovation of what stood there before.
