Architect
Alvar Aalto
Completed
1969

Alvar Aalto designed Sähkötalo, the Helsinki Electric Company's headquarters, as one of his last major commissions in the city centre, completed in 1969 near the Rautatalo building he had designed some fourteen years earlier. Its dark facade of black granite and bronze-toned glass sits close to Aalto's own earlier work, letting the two buildings be read together as a study in how his materials palette shifted over a career spent largely designing for the same few blocks of central Helsinki.
