Antti-Matti Siikala, working with professor Jan Söderlund, designed Sanomatalo as the new headquarters for the Sanoma media group, completed in 1999 with twelve floors, three of them below ground. Its glass curtain wall was intended as a literal expression of media transparency, but it was also Helsinki's first large all-glass office building and drew objections from environmental groups concerned about bird strikes on the facade. Sanoma sold the building to a German property fund in 2014 for around 176 million euros and continues to lease space in it as a tenant.
