Theodor Decker designed Aleksanteri Church, completed in 1881 in a Gothic Revival style with a tall, pointed spire visible across much of central Tampere, built as the city's population grew rapidly around its textile mills in the second half of the nineteenth century. Its red-brick exterior and steep massing distinguish it from the plainer neoclassical Tampere Old Church built some six decades earlier.
