Hjalmar Åberg designed Tampere Market Hall in 1899 in the Art Nouveau idiom then coming into fashion across Finland's larger towns, giving the building patterned brickwork and decorative ironwork more elaborate than the plainer market halls built in Helsinki and Turku around the same years. It remains an active covered market at the centre of the city, one of the best-preserved Art Nouveau commercial buildings in Tampere.
