Bertel Strömmer designed Hotel Tammer, completed in 1929 beside the Tammerkoski rapids as one of Tampere's grander hotels of the interwar period, built to accommodate the business travellers and officials increasingly drawn to the city's expanding industry. It has hosted a long list of political and cultural visitors over the decades since, including, according to local history, secret Finnish–Soviet peace negotiations during the interwar period.
