Timo Penttilä designed Tampere Stadium, known locally as Ratina, in 1963 for completion in 1966, building it almost entirely from reinforced concrete down to its floodlight masts and the cantilevered roof over the main stand. Constructed for the Finnish athletics championships, the Kalevan kisat, it has since hosted international athletics events including the 2018 IAAF World U20 Championships and the 2025 European Athletics U20 Championships.
