Pekka Ilveskoski designed the Näsinneula observation tower, completed in 1971 beside Lake Näsijärvi as part of the Särkänniemi amusement park complex, giving Tampere a 168-metre landmark visible across the city. A revolving restaurant near the top and an observation deck above it made the tower an immediate attraction, and it remains the tallest structure in the Nordic countries outside the Scandinavian mainland proper.
