Bertel Strömmer designed Tampere Bus Station in 1938, one of several functionalist commissions he completed across the city in the years just before the Second World War, alongside his hydroelectric and industrial buildings along the Tammerkoski rapids. Its long, low canopy and streamlined form were built to handle the regional bus network that had begun supplementing rail as Tampere's connection to its surrounding province.
