Finlayson Hydropower Plant

Jarl Eklund designed the Finlayson hydropower plant in 1926 for the Finlayson textile works, whose cotton mills had depended on water power from the Tammerkoski rapids since the company's founding in 1820. Its restrained Nordic Classicism gave an industrial power station the kind of civic-scale dignity more often reserved for public buildings, reflecting Finlayson's position as one of the largest employers in Finland at the time.
