Matti Sanaksenaho, working with his wife and fellow architect Pirjo Sanaksenaho, won the 1996 design competition for St Henry's Ecumenical Art Chapel with a scheme named "Ikthys" after the Christian fish symbol; the chapel opened on the Hirvensalo archipelago island on Pentecost Sunday in 2005. Its hull-like timber frame is wrapped in copper strips that are slowly weathering toward turquoise, sheltering patients and visitors from a neighbouring cancer-care centre in a quiet space of contemplation among the island's pines.
