Karl Viktor Reinius designed Turku's Volunteer Fire Department building in 1892 in a Renaissance Revival style, giving the city's volunteer brigade — one of the older organised fire services in Finland — a purpose-built station with a tower for spotting smoke and drying hoses. The building's decorative brick detailing places it among the more distinctive civic buildings from Turku's rebuilding in the decades after the 1827 fire.
