Aarne Hytönen designed Turku City Theatre, completed in 1946 in the aftermath of the Second World War, replacing an earlier wooden theatre building on the same site with a more substantial stone and brick structure suited to the city's growing postwar cultural ambitions. It remains the primary venue for professional theatre in Turku, serving both Finnish- and Swedish-language productions.
