Frithiof Strandell designed the Verdandi House in 1898 in a Renaissance Revival style, predating his later shift toward the Art Nouveau idiom he used at Hamburger Börs a decade afterward. As one of his earlier surviving commercial buildings in central Turku, it shows the more overtly historicist detailing that Turku's turn-of-the-century commercial architecture was moving away from over the following years.
