Gustaf Nyström designed Turku Market Hall in 1896, seven years after completing the similarly conceived Old Market Hall in Helsinki, applying the same red-brick, iron-framed formula he had refined for covered market construction across Finland's growing cities. It remains an active indoor market at the centre of Turku today, one of the oldest continuously operating market halls in the country.
