Risto-Veikko Luukkonen designed Turku Concert Hall, completed in 1952 as Finland's first purpose-built concert venue, with the acoustics engineered under the guidance of specialist Paavo Arni to suit its 1,002-seat auditorium. Construction was funded in part by Turku's Swedish sister city Gothenburg, making the building's functionalist form a physical symbol of the postwar friendship between the two port cities.
